About Me
After facing immense personal challenges in my youth, including drug addiction, the juvenile detention system, and the devastating suicide of my brother, I had resigned myself to the belief that to live was to suffer.
I was wrong.
When I first rolled out my yoga mat in 2004, the transformative power of breath, movement, and meditation allowed me to capture fleeting moments of calm amidst the chaos of my mind. Yoga would go on to profoundly alter the trajectory of my life for the better.
Having a yoga practice has allowed me to create enough space to consistently handle stress and cultivate a peaceful mindset. It has substantially reduced my anxiety and depression, while helping increase my overall sense of well-being. Most importantly, it has given me a sense of connection to both myself and my community.
In February 2024, I fulfilled a lifelong dream by embarking on a pilgrimage to Nepal, pursuing my 500-hour advanced teaching certification under the guidance of Ananda Prakash and the other knowledgable masters at the Nepal Yoga Home in Kathmandu. I was immersed in their wisdom and sacred traditions, but the most impactful lesson they taught was about the true purpose of yoga.
Yoga is great for healing, both mind and body, but that is just the beginning. The true purpose of yoga is about finding joy.
My classes are designed around moving energy through the body and finding equilibrium. Each class is tailored to the group and provides enough challenge to focus the mind with optional levels of intensity. I frequently utilize drum, sound bowls, and guided meditation to facilitate connection to the emotional and spiritual body. Through practice, I help guide my students back to themselves and, ultimately, to their joy.
If this resonates with you and you would like to learn more, please contact me.
I am honored to share the knowledge imparted by all of my wonderful teachers over the years from the Nepal Yoga Home, Shamanic Community of Austin, Black Swan Yoga, Wanderlust, Love Story Yoga, and Hot Yoga Charlottesville.
Namaste,
Sarah Moon
